SGM Big Bear High School Education Foundation Alumni Newsletter
November 22, 2005
It's been a busy month for the Waner family this month. Lisa (Scott's wife) was involved in a horrible car accident in early October in Big bear city by the High School. We thank God that there was no loss of life in the accident. Loren Schour received the most serious injurious and hopefully Loren will be back to school next week at the Middle School aided by a wheel chair. She should fully recover in several months. A couple of weeks ago the major article on the front page of the Grizzly was a picture of Lisa's mangled car and the students from the Middle School who were involved in the accident. It is not the way you want people you love to appear on the front page of the paper.
Wow!!!! The High School is having a tremendous athletic season this fall The football team was within one point of being undefeated. They lost Friday night 20 to 21 and are now headed for a playoff slot.
They are the DeAnza League Champions so the game was in Big Bear last Saturday. The Bears lost 17 to14. The Cross Country Bears won their fourth league title in six years and ranked third in the CIF Southern Section Division IV top 10 poll. The Girls golf team lost only to the eventual champions, Great Oak. Chris Leong had a great year coaching the girls because they got along so well together.
We have had a very heated race for the school board this year. The eventual winners were Debra Sarkisian, the parent who has implemented our afterschool program in Big Bear and Dr. Ken Turney. Dr. Turney has served on the board for more than 16 years. These two well know citizens will take their places on the board at the first school board meeting in December. Congratulations to the new board members. We are indebted to Kathy Campell who has served on the school board for the past 26 years and chose not to run for the school board this year. Kathy has been a devoted board school member and has served the students of our valley well for all these years.
Had several e-mails from Todd Burton wanting to know the homecoming date for the 2006 football season. David Griffiths says the probable date will be September 16 for those of you planning to attend the game next year. We will make sure of the date when we have confirmation from David.
I have a couple of announcements to make in next months newsletter regarding the Middle School. I can hardly wait!!! We are requesting permission from the School Board to begin both of these projects. By this time next month the announcements should be forthcoming.
HAVE A NICE THANKSGIVING AND I HOPE YOU GET TO SPLEND TIME WITH YOUR FAMILY.
