FIRST NIGHT FOOTBALL GAME IN BIG BEARS HISTORY
THE BIG BEAR HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY IS STILL UNDEFEATED as of November 17,
2006. The Press Enterprise estimated 2000 people gathered for the night
game. They beat Hamilton High School 42 to 10 on Friday in Big Bear. Big
Bear plays Rosamond High School on Friday, November 24 in Rosamond.
Rosamond is located north of Palmdale. BIG BEAR High is still ranked
number one in small schools and has a 11 - 0 over all record. Big Bears
opponent, Hamilton High school, refused to play on Saturday afternoon and
wanted to play the game down the hill at a neutral sight which had lights.
Little did the Hamilton coaches know of Big Bears resolve to have the game
in Big Bear. So lights were rented and the field looked beautiful for the
night game. There was something majestic about Minder Field being lit up
for a night game. It was a real team victory. GO BEARS!!!!
Big Bear High Varsity Cross Country Team won the CIF-Southern Section Cross
Country Division 4 Championship at Mount San Antonio College on November
18. You guessed it!!!! Chad Hall won the Division 4 race. The Big Bear
Cross Country team also won their second consecutive Division 4 race. The
team will now compete in Fresno this week at the State Finals. GO
Esperanza Fire victim touches Big Bear High School
The loss of four firefighters to the Esperanza Fire hit close to home
for Big Bear Valley. One of the Forest Service fallen firefighters, Jess

and was the husband of Karen Clays, a 1998 Big Bear High School graduate.
Eric Thompson memorial service
On Saturday, October 21 a memorial service was held at Nottinghams
Restaurant for Eric Scott Thompson, class of 1978. Eric died from a long 6
month long illness related to diabetics and open heart surgery. Erick was
a well known chef for 22 years in the valley and was our chief for the
first few years of the SGM/BBHS Foundation banquet held at Northwoods. He
was feathered many time is the L.A. Times for his culinary expertise. He
was an icon in this field and enjoyed sharing his passion with everyone.
Many of you will remember his sister Darlene, brother Lloyd, twins
daughters, Jenna and Sarah Thompson and son Nathan Thompson. There were
many alumni and alumni parents at the gathering. Our prayers are with the
Big Bear High is undergoing major remodeling but the High School
athletic teams keep rolling on. The track team participated in the
Kamehameha Invitational in Hawaii and then completed in the De Anza League
meet at Riverside Community College and finished in first place. Chris
Jasperson, Seth Brown, Cody Dodd, Ryan Lambert and Chad Hall are giving
their best for Big Bear High. They have their sights on the CIF finals
coming up soon. The Girls Cross Country team took second at the Riverside
Community meet. Julia Cline and Cassidy Tokunaga, Bre Musella and Megan
Kendall finished near the top 10. There is a youth movement on this team
so we will be hearing from them for years to come.
New small school environment permeates Big Bear High. Dr. Rick Jameson,
principal of Big Bear High, designed and implemented four small school
groups at the High School this fall. In talking with the teachers at the
football games they say it is a great new program that provides a caring
environment for students. Keep it up Dr. "J" and staff.
IT WAS IN THE 30'S THIS WEEK IN BIG BEAR.
