TOM SANCHEZ PASSES

One of the truly great educators of the Bear Valley School District passed away in late July. Services for Tom Sanchez were held in Lakewood on August 1, with many of the former educators and students from Big Bear attending the funeral services.

Tom began teaching at Big Bear High School in 1950. He was the first principal of the newly unified school district, Bear Valley Unified, which broke off from Victorville Unified School District in 1958. He served as principal until 1961. He became the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services from 1961 to 1978.

In 1978 Tom and Jean moved to Culver City where Tom worked as the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. In 1985, the Science wing at the new High School was dedicated to Tom. Tom was a highly respected administrator in the State of California and was well known in the California School Business Officials' Organization.

His wife, Jean, son Craig, daughters Diane and Sandie and grandchildren were with Tom when he passed. It was a Big Bear reunion at the services and reception. We are FAMILY!!!!!

Side note: Good news on the Kriss Proctor (Tom's Grandson) front: Kriss is currently second string on the Navy Varsity team. When the first string quarterback got hurt in late July, Kriss stepped in to the starting quarterback position. Watch for # 2 for the Navy when they play on national TV and watch for Kriss to play. Grandpa Tom would have loved to see Kriss play for Navy!!! Go Navy!!!!! (Except if they play USC).

REUNION OF THE CLASS OF 1989

Received this notice from Margie (Sievers) Perkins, class of 1989: Hello classmates of '89,

I am looking so forward to our reunion and catching up with all of you. So here are finalized plans for the reunion at the Robinhood Resort on September 26th, 2009, 6-11:00pm.

Rooms at the Robinhood Resort are available. If you reserve a two night stay, there is 15% discount for each night, or if you reserve a one night stay, there is 10% discount off the regular room rate. You must call to get the discount (discount does not apply if you reserve a room over the internet). The phone number is (909)866-4643.

A Tri-tip/Chicken dinner, with lots of sides, will be provided and the cost is $40 per person or $75 per couple. A bar will open for drinks and dinner is served with iced tea, coke or water. Please start sending money, either cash or check, made out to Marjorie Perkins as soon as you can. The deadline for money to reserve your dinner is September 12th, 2009.

This is a perfect place for our reunion since it is close to town, the lake, they have their own tavern above Nottingham's restaurant (maybe a good get-together place for Friday night), and close to the Homecoming football game at 1pm on Saturday. The reunion and dinner will be in the hotel's garden patio (with heaters if needed). The dress is casual and it is Big Bear, so plan on bringing something warm to wear for the evenings get cold.

Please send me your mail address not on Facebook and have them get in touch with me or give them information about the reunion.

Any questions email me at bbmarj@yahoo.com or contact me through Facebook or call my cell number (909)382-1424. Please mail money to PO Box 2933, Big Bear City, CA 92314.

Who would have thought we would really be planning our 20 year reunion? We can't be that old! Looking forward to seeing you all!
